Abstract:
Until some 10 years ago hardly any European property law existed. This is changing drastically. The integration process towards the creation of the internal market has led to growing awareness of the need to harmonise other areas of private law than just contract and tort law. So far, with regard to property law this process has been haphazard. This project aims to (1) examine the existing and proposed European property law, (2) describe and analyse the fundamental principles, policy choices and concepts upon which European property law is based and (3) propose a framework for further conceptualisation in this area.
