Abstract:
This research focuses on analyzing the importance of a European unification of patients rights in order to encourage the cross-border use of health care. With the proposal for a EU-Directive on the application of patients\' rights in cross-border health care as starting point, this legal study aims to gain an insight into the national systems on the protection of patients\' rights in five EU Member States. Particularly, attention will be paid to the question to what extent the differences in the national healthcare systems cause serious barriers for the improvement of patients\' mobility and to the possibilities in order to remove of restrict these differences.
