Abstract:
Recognition of Pakistani marriages in England, Germany and the Netherlands is complicated. Authorities have to ascertain the validity of those marriages. Therefore authorities need to have knowledge about the formal and substantive requirements to establish a valid marriage in Pakistan and need to know which marriages in Pakistan are governed by which set of rules. The law and especially family laws in Pakistan are very diverse due to the different laws applicable to each religious group (primarily Sunni-Muslims and other Muslim subgroups, Parsis , Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and Jews). This research aims firstly to determine the applicable rules and the practice of the local authorities relating to marriages concluded in Pakistan, and secondly to describe and compare the legal appreciation of specific occurring problems associated with Pakistani marriages in England, Germany and the Netherlands.
