Abstract:

This Ph.D. research focuses on the question, whether rules exists of international customary law, with regard to restitution of stolen cultural goods. If one can answer that question in a positive way, the research will then focus on how restitution policy can be deployed on a national level. Also the question of how the international customary law on restitution effectively can be endorsed on an international level will be looked upon. This Ph.D. research will try and tackle these questions by analyzing the restitution policies, as those policies are executed by several different countries, from a legal and historical point of view.
