Abstract:
In contemporary world, fully autonomous weapon systems are not used militarily due to technical, legal and ethical concerns. They are, however, likely to be implemented in the future subsequent to further development of artificial intelligence (AI). Although there are studies which deal with autonomous weapons, there is none have specifically focussed on the effects of AI in terms of international humanitarian law (IHL). Therefore, this project questions how the inclusion of AI technology in such weapons increases existing fears described in the literature and reveals the concerns unique to the use of autonomous weapons that are fully operated by AI by incorporating the law and technology perspective within IHL
