Joint Investigation Teams - Effective Institutions for Cross-border Law Enforcement?PhD student: Mrs D. Nidel
Duration: 1/2/2021 - 31/1/2025
Abstract:
Teams (JITs) as an institution for cross-border law enforcement. It will include an exploration of the legal and policy contexts within which JITs have emerged and currently operate to allow identification of possible deficiencies in those frameworks, as well as a study of the obstacles encountered in practice by JIT participants. The perspectives of law enforcement officials will be supplemented by those of the defence, and the role of private actors within/alongside JITs will also be considered. Ultimately, the aim of the research is evaluative and normative: providing a critical assessment of JITs and recommendations for improvement of their functioning. Both doctrinal and empirical research methods will be used.
