Abstract:
This research analyses the current trend in different states to adopt Child Online Safety Legislation (e.g. age verification, anti-pornography laws, minimum ages for social media). It will critically evaluate the underlying goals of these types of legislation and the means that are employed to achieve these goals. The research goal is to establish certain substantive and procedural components that should be included in EU Child Online Safety Legislation to effectively safeguard minor's rights in their access to and use of online plafforms from a child's rights perspective. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and General Comment no. 25 on childrens rights in relation to the digital environment will be used as the guiding normative framework. This research will compare several countries and their approach to this subject, namely France, Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
