Introductie

This two-day meeting is meant as a first introduction with the research school, a first acquaintance with other new PhD candidates and a number of advanced PhD candidates who will speak about their experiences with the research school. During these days we will explain the working of the research school, the content of the training programme, the role of PhD candidates in the research school, and we will make a start with the content of the training programme with a presentation skills meeting and by asking you to present your research. If possible, the dates of the other meetings within the scope of the Ius Commune PhD training programme will be announced.

The second day of the meeting is devoted to presentation skills. Before their fellow Ph.D. researchers, each researcher will give a short presentation on your research so far and to indicate how you plan to fill in your research in the future. Usually this takes approximately 20 minutes per student: 10 minutes presentation and 10 minutes of feedback and discussion with your peers and an expert in presentation skills.
Please note that this requires you to prepare a short presentation on the topic of your research. We fully understand that you have just started with your research and that you therefore will most likely only be able to talk about the outline of your research. That is not a problem, it is exactly the purpose of this introductory meeting to discuss these aspects and to give you feedback on your presentation skills (rather than on the content of the research). If you do not have a research topic yet for your PhD, you can also present other research, such as a paper that you are writing or a master’s thesis.
